About British Saddleback Pigs
Until recently British Saddleback pigs were on the endangered list of breeds with only a handful of breeders left in the country. Thanks to increased public interest in both traditional breeds and animal welfare, numbers have increased substantially. The Saddleback is a delightful pig to rear. They are great mothers and fantastic characters - full of fun. The meat is just about as good as it gets - moist with a superb flavour and great crackling. It is largely thanks to raised public awareness from programmes such as 'River Cottage' and 'Jamie Saves our Bacon' that breeds such as the Saddleback are now (for the time being at least) safely off the endangered list.
